As part of a package of improvements for this courtyard the existing concrete flag paving was removed and replaced with a more attractive finish, natural stone cobble setts. A number of features were employed to alleviate flooding problems. On completion of a sample area the works were extended over the rest of the courtyard. Setts of a single course width of varying lengths. Being a natural product there is considerable variation in thickness which had to be accommodated in the methods used to achieve a level finish. Filling the joints requires attention to the mortar mix in terms of proportion, moisture content and application technique. Weather conditions varied between torrential rain and baking heat. Setts were laid right up to edges and obstructions. |
